ALFA Upgrades originated from a lingering question: With the progress in monitoring technologies for ground and pipe movements, why are transmission lines not being enhanced to manage applied displacements through more efficient and optimized methods? As engineers in the industry, we consistently faced the same issue: The existing solutions appeared coarse, inefficient, and often prohibitively expensive.
By leveraging advanced hazard identification and monitoring technologies, we saw an opportunity to reimagine the integrity management of pipeline crossings geohazards from the ground up.

Development of the Geobuffer concept begins. We identified the challenges of ground movements impacting pipelines and started building a smarter solution.
Several numerical studies and small/full scale tests completed. laboratory and field-simulated tests proved the Geobuffer system could protect pipelines from large ground movements.
Successful development and installation at three geohazard sites. Real-world applications on small to large pipe sizes under different ground movement conditions confirms practicality and versatility.
